Since we've covered the collective shame anyone has when mentioning the issues in the Avatar movie (the airbender one, Cameron's is a whole other encyclopedia of wrong) I think the best remedy to sit back and laugh. Because the more dramatically serious they present themselves, the worse it's going to be when they lose to the sparklepires.

Imma say, the bending looks awesome though.

I found myself underwhelmed by the waterbending, but that could be because the animation made it a point to show how it was constantly being redirected and I don't see it as an extension of their movements.

And mostly I'm facepalming at how firebenders can't make fire ha ha what.

The movie looks gorgeous, even if the tone feels really wrong. I'm sad that they failed so badly in the casting department, otherwise it'd be great to see it in the movie theater if just for the visual effects.

It's the part where it looks like it belongs in the 300 trailers that gets me.

"TONIGHT! WE DINE! ON APPA!"

If this turns out to be a less faithful adaptation that Dragonball: Evolution, I will laugh forever.

It is certainly trying! Leaked spoilers already show a fundemental not getting it and then there's that whole elephant in the room of the awkward racial casting.

IF IT GETS A SEQUEL I WILL LAUGH MORE BECAUSE THE IDEA OF MOVIE AZULA HURTS ME TO HYSTERICS

The Water Tribes are meant to be that way.

To blend in with the snow.

Of course.

It's a survival of the fittest thing.

Obviously.

That's to show how the world is in darkness and needs to be saved.

From those upstarts who can make fire how dare they.

That's because all those helpless diverse people need white people to save them from the evil brown guys.

It's become equal opportunity pillaging. We can now domestically whitewash and solemnify.

Zhao is now an evil brown man in a turban.

I don't even know anymore. Is this a SE Asian version of yellow peril now? Although that pretty much goes hand-in-hand with the whole "white man's burden" trope.

Also, I am really underwhelmed with the bending. It's what you said in another comic: the show made a point of showing how bending is an extension of the bender, but the effects in the movie make it look more like something from X-Men.

See, the firebenders are clearly terrorists.

WE'RE STEPPIN' IN ON YOUR TERRITORY JET.

Seriously. I am so sick of how CGI replaces a good grounding of making motions believable. Goddamn, when animation feels realer to me it's time to stop.

I can't get the player to work for me, so I tried searching for an alternative place to view the commercial at. FAILED, but came across this gem describing various movies that are going to be advertised during the Super Bowl.

And I about fell over laughing at how the person talking somehow managed to keep a straight face when she described The Last Airbender as "multi-cultural."

There's a YouTube version up here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8__4gDA5ylQ) but. Yeah.

I guess you could call it multicultural if you look at the different styles of clothes the nations are cribbed off and ignore how it doesn't correspond to the actors.
